Working For Us

Sunday Times Best Companies to Work For 2013

We're thrilled to have been recognised as one of the 100 Best Companies to work for 2013 and we think we're the only casual dining company to hold both this accolade and the Investors in People Gold Award, recognising our industry leading training and development.

At Las Iguanas you’ll not only enjoy a fantastic and exciting working environment and the company of a brilliant team of people, but you'll also have the opportunity to develop a successful and rewarding career in the restaurant business!

Investors in People Gold

We're so proud of our Gold Award! Only a handful of companies achieve the highest standard for their training & development. We first achieved the IiP standard in 2001 and were awarded Gold status in 2012.

We believe that we stand out from the crowd because the whole Las Iguanas family work so hard to give each guest the best Latin American experience. And in recognition of your hard work we are pleased to invest time and resources in training and developing you to be great at your job, and give you a rewarding career in the hospitality industry.

For an Investors in People assessment, staff are chosen at random and take part in a short, informal and anonymous one to one chat with our independent assessor. Assessments are carried out at periods of between 1 and 3 years.

Our Commitment To You

Every member of our team plays a BIG part in the Las Iguanas experience and we believe everyone should be rewarded for exceptional service and performance. We offer everyone industry leading Training & Development, a career path which many of our great managers have made great use of, loads of great Incentives and open & honest communication with our team. This is our commitment to our teams.

Your Commitment To Us

Our teams work extremely hard and each and every one make a commitment to work towards being their very best. We ask them to commit to...

  • Getting feedback from our guests (how will we improve if we don’t know where we are going wrong?)
  • Giving feedback to us in our People Surveys, when the Ops Manager visits or just feedback on the go (so that we can also make improvements– after all nobody’s perfect!)
  • Working as part of a team (true service brilliance comes from all working together)
  • Being punctual (the guests won’t wait)
  • Presenting themselves well and of course...

Magic Service – providing guests with the kind of service and hospitality that makes them want to return to the restaurant again and again!

Team

TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT

Team Training at Iguanas

All new Team members have a full induction to introduce them to Living Latin Life along with all the boring but necessary legal bits; Health & Safety, Food Safety & Fire Safety Training. We’ll then take you through some really comprehensive modular training for your new role to make sure you have all the know-how you need to succeed.

Management Opportunities

We want you to progress through the business like many team members before you. We’ve got star stories galore. We advertise all of our management positions on our intranet and on team notice boards so you know what to go for and we’ll all do our best to help you get there.

Getting Involved

There are plenty of extra activities to get involved with, to further your own skills and have your say:

  • The Voice Teams for the kitchen, bar and floor meet quarterly to feedback and make plans for improvements led by the people that actually work in each department day to day.
  • The Environmental Team drives our commitment to The Sustainable Restaurant Association.
  • Incentive Champions
  • Social Media ideas
  • The Charity Group
  • Area Support Trainers

TEAM INCENTIVES & BENEFITS

Team Incentives

Every member of our team plays a BIG part in the Las Iguanas experience and we believe everyone should be rewarded for exceptional service and performance. We are always looking for new and unique ways to say well done to our people! Some of our current events include:

  • Race to Rio: our Annual mystery-diner based competition with the victorious sites sending their four star performers off on a training trip to the land of carnival and cachaça. Check out some pics from recent trips:
  • BOH and BAR Challenges: a great opportunity for you to let your creative juices flow and put your own stamp on our menu. With regional heats and a grand final, you get to show off your skills to a tough judging panel including a Director or two. The triumphant team are announced on the day and the winning dish or cocktail makes it on to the next seasonal menu. It’s as simple as that.
  • Along with the Race to Rio and the BOH and Bar Challenges where you are competing against other Las Iguanas restaurants, the incentives vary from on-the-spot prizes to annual team targets to work towards. In the past, prizes such as Nintendos & Playstations, travel & experience days, vouchers and iPods have been up for grabs. Your restaurant will also run ad hoc games & competitions where you can win prizes too.

Iguana Awards

Every year we host an Awards Ceremony to say thank you to people who have stood out as our stars. Anyone from any department has the opportunity to win an award. The award ceremony itself brings together all of the shortlisted team members and General Managers and Head Chefs also attend the glamorous bash. The Awards Ceremony is a real opportunity to dress up, let your hair down and have a few laughs at the Directors’ expense.

Everyone can be in with a chance of winning by being the best of the best and we are always on the lookout for next year’s winners.

Team Benefits

In addition to our incentive programme, team members enjoy staff discount on food, long-service awards for 5, 10 and 15 years with the company, and if you have children then you can also take advantage of our Childcare Voucher Scheme.

Management

TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT

FOH Manager Training

Every Front of House Manager undertakes six weeks of management training at our Centre of Excellence. Each department is covered so managers understand the business inside out. Our Management Induction Training workbook has been endorsed by the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM) and managers who successfully complete training will receive a certificate confirming their Las Iguanas Management Training from the ILM.

BOH Manager Training

Our Kitchen Managers go through 6 weeks of kitchen management induction training at our Chef Academy, covering all of the processes, recipes and fresh food that make up our extensive menu. They also receive comprehensive kitchen management training covering gross profit management, cost control and managing, recruiting and training their kitchen teams!

Management Development

After BOH & FOH Managers complete their initial induction training, they receive our Management Development Programme which they can work through to develop their skills as a manager and as a leader in the business. There is huge scope to progress through the business and we have loads of examples of this – check out our Success Stories page.
